Gmail is a favorite email service for many, especially since it offers so many cool features and services . Indeed, it was the service that accelerated development in this industry by posing a serious threat to the existing leaders, Hotmail and Yahoo. What with Google's Drive integration along with other services, it has almost become the leading email service. Most people open their browsers to check on their emails on Gmail. But there's a simpler way! The Gmail Notifier for Windows is an easy solution that lets you receive emails right on your desktop without opening up your browser! Not only is this a handy option to get email alerts when you are doing something else, say watching a movie or playing a game, this feature is also a haven for those who use multiple Google Accounts. I, for one, do. My primarily used Google account is based on a Hotmail email address, so I get a headache whenever i need to check my Gmail. I can't do it without having to type in many passwords again. Hence, for people like me, this is a simple solution for checking out their email and quickly replying or composing a new email through it. Another advantage of using this small utility is, it will become your default mailto program. Hence, you won't need to configure a larger and more complex application, such as Microsoft outlook, to be able to send emails when clicking on email links. So when you click on links with a 'mailto' attribute, a Gmail 'compose' window will open.
Setting up Setting up is easy. Simply download the software from the site (link given above) and install it. It's a very small utility, and will install in no time at all. Run the installer, and you will see two options to select; Run on start-up and Use for outgoing mail. The Run on start-up option will auto-start the Gmail notifier whenever Windows starts, and the Use for outgoing mail will activate Gmail notifier to open a compose window whenever you click no a 'mailto' link. You probably want to check both the options before proceeding.
After installing, you will be prompted for your Google Account email and password. Once authenticated, you will start receiving all your notifications on the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Right-click on the Gmail icon from the system tray, and you will see a bunch of options. From there, you can View your email Inbox or Check email now to refresh notifications. There's also an option 'Tell me again', which runs the notifications again one more time. 'Options' will take you to another screen, where you can set your default browser and enable/disable mailto links.
There is a known issue with Gmail notifier. It sometimes gives a connection error as a result of it trying to use HTTPS secure encryption. The utility wasn't designed for this kind of thing, but you can fix the problem by downloading a patch. Extract the .zip file, and close the Gmail notifier. Then, open the notifier_https.reg file and then confirm. Start the notifier again, and hopefully you will see no problems.

Google AdSense Ad serving has been a hot topic since like forever, as lots of bloggers and webmasters use AdSense to make money online . Many people have asked questions regarding errors associated with Google Ads. And indeed, the rejected Ad request errors are quite common. These occur majorly when the ads on your site are not properly set up, and hence they can't crawl the correct URL. In such cases, an error occurs, and 'blank ads' might be served as a result. These errors have become quite common. But if you are encountering them, there's nothing to worry about. In this post, we will show you what causes such errors , and how to remove them . What are Ad requests? An Ad request is counted whenever a site requests ads from Google to be displayed. For example, suppose there are three ad blocks on a page. When that page is loaded, all the three blocks request ads from Google, and the ads are then displayed. Even if there is some error in displaying, it is still counted as an ad request.
Ad request errors basically occur when the requests are rejected, or could not be fetched. In that case, backup, or blank ads are displayed. This gives the first heads-up that something is wrong with your ad units. Reasons for errors The most common reason for such errors is that, your ad blocks are located within one or multiple iframes. This causes problems for the unit, because it crawls and targets the wrong URL. It becomes isolated, and hence cannot access and determine what sort of content you have, hence contextual ads become useless. And when Google can't determine your site's correct information, blank or backup ads might be served.
You might also be getting errors because you are using an SSP (Supply-Side Platform). SSPs include yield managers or ad servers that are used for ad optimization. You need to contact them and notify them of the issue you are having. Fixing ad request errors To fix these errors in AdSense and Ad Exchange, you generally need to pass to them the URL of the page that displays the ads. DoubleClick for Publishers For DoubleClick for Publishers users, if you are using the Google Ad Manager , then in your ad call, you can try adding this line of code to make your ads work properly
GA_googleAddAdSensePageAttr("google_page_url", "URL"); For Google Publisher Tags, you can try adding the following line of code to your ad call. googletag.pubads().set("page_url", "URL"); For DART, in AdSense or Ad Exchange, you can pass the correct URL by using the dc_ref parameter in conjunction with the google_page_url parameter. Other domains For tag.admeld.com errors within your report, you need to contact your Admeld representative and ask for JavaScript tags instead of iframes. This should take care of most errors caused by nested iframes.
For other domains, to target correct URLs, you will need to use google_page_url. here's a demonstration. Apparently, a lot, as the head head of Google's webspam team, Matt Cutts demonstrates (yes, he's the guy that's probably ruined your blog after the Panda and Penguin updates :P). But it's all for the better, because quality is now Google's priority. And there's a lot to be learned from the maybe-not-so-evil-after-all Matt Cutts. During an interactive session at a WordPress camp, he humors his audience for an hour with some Whitehat SEO tips and strategies that webmasters can apply to climb up the ladder. The major topics discussed were SEO keyword and security tips, pros and cons of Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools, migrating to a new web-host, and of course, some WordPress plugin recommendations. Bloggers would definitely benefit from these tips. The lecture comprises of a 1-hour long fun video that you'll love to watch. But if you'd rather read about, you can download the power-point slides or see the full transcribed text form of the video. Alternatively, you can read more about it at Matt's blog. SEO tips for keywords Keywords are the most important part of your site's content. Their correct or wrong usage can make or break your site. The first issue raised in the lecture was keyword stuffing. A guy, who supposedly invented an 'immortality device' claimed that Google put him down due to his invention, and that it doesn't want 'the truth' leaked out to the public. What most people missed was, he had a lot of keywords stuffed into a small 40x20px area, keywords including hundreds of celebrity names etc. This, in fact, was the reason for the penalty. Keyword stuffing is bad, and to Google, is now just noise. Google recommends keyword tools for research. For your post titles and content, make use of keyword tools such as AdWords by Google, or Overture by Yahoo. These will let you know search volumes for keywords, and help you decide which ones will be best for you. Pick good keywords, and name your categories accordingly as well. Always, always tag your images with ALT or alternative text. This is for accessibility, as it lets blind people know what's inside your image. It also makes your image available to Google search. People search for images and videos almost as much as they search for text. And if your images are not search-able, they won't appear anywhere. In your permalinks and file paths, always use keywords, separated by dashes. You can also use underscores, but dashes are recommended. Never use space, because it gets replaced by '%20', which is neither user-friendly nor SEO friendly. If your site has previously made use of such URLs, then don't change them. Start from now instead. Change your default permalinks to something like /%postname%/ The last keyword tip discussed was about URL parameters. While dynamic URLs are fine, the number of parameters should be low. Read our guide on Configuring URL parameters for your blog . Making your site friendly - First of all, your site should be crawl-able , and is not blocked from crawlers through a global noindex. WordPress and Blogger and other blogs are good to go by default.

Google Analytics and Webmaster tools Google Analytics and Webmaster tools are really your friends. Google Analytics provides your site's complete statistical data, whereas Webmaster Tools help you troubleshoot your site and optimize it for better ranking in Google. Using Google's Webmaster Tools, you can; - Test robot.txt files before making them live, so that you can avoid any block errors beforehand
- Submit spam reports against a site
- Remove some of your URLs from index that you don't want shown
- See a list of all your backlinks to see who is linking to you
- See 404 and crawl errors. This allows you to troubleshoot your site for any broken links users might find. You can then correct those URLs and mark them as corrected
- See your Crawl stats and Advanced index reporting so you can look for trends, and find out whether there's a problem or not
Moving to a new webhost and domain Moving your site is never easy. There's a lot that could go wrong, which is why Google gives some tips on moving webhost and domain. When changing your webhost and moving to a new IP, its always best to first backup your website. Then, bring it live on the new IP. Try reducing your DNS time-to-live. Once your site is live on the new IP, watch GoogleBot and observe user traffic to see if there isn't a significant drop or change of pattern. Wait till they fetch your site from the new IP. You can then take the old IP down. While moving to a new domain, always use a 301 redirect instead of a 302, because a 301 is a permanent redirect. It'll be best if you move only a particular domain or sub-directory instead of your whole site. This will let you observe how much traffic have you lost for that particular sub-domain. If there's not much of a drop, then go ahead with the complete switch. Otherwise, don't do it. You will find countless blogging and SEO tips online and on this blog. If you don't trust the credibility of what other say, then you can take it from Matt Cutts, the Google guy. He is the head of the web-spam team at Google, so he definitely knows what he is talking about, as he is the person in charge of controlling what blogs get a good spot in SERPs and what blogs get penalized due to over-optimization or other SEO or blogging mistakes. During his one-hour lecture at a WordPress Camp, he shared some blogging tips and ideas that we feel worth re-sharing with other people who weren't there or didn't see the video. File paths Matt shared in his lecture, that in your file paths, you must not use multiple parameters for stuff like search queries etc. Also, it is better to use underscores as word separators rather than dashes, although dashes are fine too. And as far as file extensions are concerned, all extensions, such as .php, .html, .asp, .pdf are fine. The only discouraged file extension is .exe, because that's an easy way to get infected by a virus. Avoid .exe files. Getting onto Google News To get a blog included in Google News, it must have multiple authors. Getting into Google News can boost your traffic, as it channels out some competition, and leaves you open to compete for an audience eager to gran hold of any piece of news information. Create controversy This is a great blogging tip, and Matt talked about it in some detail. And we totally agree with the notion. Creating a controversy is a good way of gaining attention. When you talk about a controversial topic, people are more likely to comment and share their views, and hence get the conversation going. Controversy doesn't necessarily need to be related to some scandal. It could be your views on technology, or comparison between two smartphones, and so on.
Contribute insightful analysis One great idea for writing blog posts is contributing insightful analysis of the services that people ordinarily use. For example, you can look into which service gets more spam, Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail? Or, you can compare and contrast different cloud storage services. Provide data that will help people make better decisions. Provide useful services Another great blogging idea is to provide useful services to your audience. These can include tools, or other cool features. For example, iPhone apps, or a PDF sign converter, or perhaps a lolcat builder. The sky is the limit really. Notice how we provide some tools such as HTML Editor and Encoder, Color Code Generator etc which are useful to bloggers and other such people. Make lists! Making lists is also a good way of getting some extra traffic, and providing some useful information to your readers. Many people have asked us about the 'top 10' lists we've been sharing here at MBT and especially at SEM. Well, they weren't without reason and effect. Start with something like 'top 10 plugins for...' or 'top 13 reasons why something rules' etc. Create tutorials Create tutorials, and teach people on how to create some forms or configure their auto-responders, and so on. The best way to go about this is to write about something when you learn about it yourself. That way, you will be able to memorize the process while educating other people. Liveblog! Liveblogging is covering a social event live on your blog, with regular updates and feeds on what's going on. Lots of people liveblog about conferences or seminars/webinars. It is just one of the many ways you can keep your audience engaged.

For creative ideas, you should visit sites like Reddit, Digg, Techmeme, and so on. Be creative It's a well known fact that creativity inspires buzz/word-of-mouth. And that is the fastest way of getting your blog or site viral. Creating creative and original content is a sure way to get noticed. And where creativity is concerned, the sky is your limit. one particularly funny suggestion Matt Cutts gave was, 'sell your mustache on eBay' or 'Say Google fast' :). But then again, its all up-to you to decide how creative you want to be. IPTL Premier - MVP look to be favorites, but will they meet their potential?
Sep 10th 2012, 19:56  MVP Clan came to life in October 2010, but December 2010 was the month when Korea StarCraft 2 Association finally recognized them as a professional team; however, it was May 2011 that put them on the Korean map for good when they took second place during GSTL 2011 May finals losing to SlayerS after very close games and five months later when they won GSTL Season 1 defeating Prime. Yet, it is 2012 that brought them vast number of titles both for the players and the team as a whole; more GSTL medals, third place at IPL Team Arena Challenge 1, KSL Opening Ceremonies and Asia StarCraft II Invitational Tournament. IPTL Premier Division - StarTale Team Preview
Sep 10th 2012, 20:28  There's really no other way to put it: StarTale is an absolute powerhouse of a Starcraft 2 team. They have everything they need in place to make a strong run in the Premier division of the inaugural IGN Pro Team League: a Code S finalist as the ace, a supporting cast of known high-caliber players, and some wild cards capable of producing unpredictable results. Historically, StarTale performs well in league play. They showed their team strength best in GSTL 2012 Season 1, making it to the grand final match that was held alongside IPL 4 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, even though they lost against Prime. Squirtle also took advantage of the trip to Las Vegas from an individual standpoint, coming in second at the IPL4 main event. However, in the following Season 2, they were unable to make the playoffs, which certainly had something to do with neither of their Protoss studs Squirtle or PartinG picking up even one win between them in the two deciding matches; StarTale lost to NSHoSeo and FXOpen. The IPL TAC 3 campaign was more successful, with StarTale taking wins off of heavyweight teams like Prime and TSL before being ousted in the loser's bracket finals by the eventual second place finisher, Team Liquid. In a recent interview, Sony vice president Adam Boyes said Sony's development support team collaborates with all third party publishers to fix technical issues, and that includes Bethesda. FIFA 13 has 24 Skill Games that should perfect your shooting, improve your passing, and make you an all-round better player. If they don't, you might just be beyond help.
They're divided into 8 categories, including shooting, dribbling, and free kicks. In each one you'll be able to earn a bronze, silver, and gold level by fulfilling different challenges.
This week we're going to show you all of them on IGN, starting with that absolute fundamental: passing. The 6 videos below teach you how to play a variety of balls, from tiki-taka passes designed to eviscerate defences to lofted Beckham-esque balls that fall from the heavens.
In this first drill, you simply need to pass the ball to several targets dotted around the pitch. You'll learn how to vary the amount of pace put on the ball to reach your desired target.

Electronic Arts was apparently prepared to pay up to $1 billion in order to acquire Valve, according to a new report. The New York Times claims to have seen a report which lists the various opportunities Gabe Newell has had to sell the company in the past. "Valve has been pursued over the years by Electronic Arts, which would very likely have valued Valve at well over $1 billion had the talks progressed that far," it explains. The article goes on to say the claims come courtesy of "two people with knowledge of the discussion who spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks were private". Why said talks broke down isn't clear, especially given that EA's COO Peter Moore recently voiced his support for the company, describing them as being "on the cutting edge of the future of this industry". It may have something to do with Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, who has apparently long been convinced that the company would "disintegrate" if it was ever bought by another company. "It's way more likely we would head in that direction than say, 'Let's find some giant company that wants to cash us out and wait two or three years to have our employment agreements terminate,' he said. Had the deal gone through, EA would have gotten quite the bargain; Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter estimates that Valve would today be valued at around $2.5 billion, mainly thanks to its Steam digital distribution service. The company is also believed to make far more money from Steam than it does from actual sales of its own games. This number only looks set to go up, especially with the recent news that the company will be "jumping in" to hardware development.   | | | | | | | | | |  | |  | |  |
